The Magazine of Italian Art

AN EXPLORATION OF THE VERY BEST OF ITALIAN ART, ARCHITECTURE, FASHION, FILM, AND LITERATURE.

Il Libro is the axis for Italian art and culture, uncovering connections, inviting comparisons, and creating discussions.

Western civilization was born in Italy, and from its soil have sprung many of the world’s greatest cultural forces, from the Roman Empire to the Catholic Church, from the Renaissance to the Risorgimento, from the Baroque and beyond. This Italian preoccupation with manifest beauty has propelled its art and culture internationally.

Il Libro perpetuates this phenomenon in a lavish and bold journal that covers the ancient to the contemporary.

Published by Marco Voena, founder of the renowned international art Italian gallery Robilant+Voena, edited by former National Gallery of Art curator Carolyn H. Miner, and designed by Luca Stoppini, it is unconnected to any commercial enterprise, rather it draws on, celebrates and investigates the profound influence of Italian arts for their critical value alone and aims to tell unusual stories from across a broad subject.

Il Libro encompasses and celebrates all of the Italian arts. The concentration is on the visual—painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, architecture—and it supplemented by subjects drawn from the worlds of music, literature, film, fashion, design, and craft.

The international roster of contributors to Il Libro bring a fresh perspective on Italy and its creative riches—this includes art historians, journalists, novelists, art photographers, memoirists, illustrators from both Italy and beyond. We have famous writers and new writers, generalists and specialists. The unifying characteristic is a distinctive point of view.
